The construction on the Keystone School began in 1899 and the school was opened in 1900 at the cost of $10,000. The students were mainly children of miners and local merchants. Later in 1927 many of the miners became the carvers of Mt. Rushmore. The school was in operation until 1989. If you are one of the many students who attended school here please contact us.
